Nudge is built around a simple idea: your focus is yours. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we protect it — in plain English, no legal performance.
1. Who we are
"Nudge" (or "we", "us") refers to the iOS focus app and accompanying website at heynudge.co. The app is operated by Ate, an independent developer based in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Nudge is designed to work primarily on your device. The following data stays on your iPhone and is never transmitted to our servers:
Your task content — the one task you set each day. Stored locally in iOS.
Session timing — when you start and finish sessions. Stored locally.
App blocklist — the list of apps you choose to lock after your deadline. Managed locally via Apple's Family Controls framework.
2.2 Data the website collects
When you visit our website (heynudge.co) or join our waitlist, we collect:
Email address — only if you voluntarily submit it to join the waitlist.
Standard web analytics — page views, referrer, browser, device type. Used to understand site usage and improve content.
User-agent and IP address — captured by our server (Vercel) at the moment of email signup. Used for security and fraud prevention.
2.3 Data we do not collect
We do not collect your contact list, photos, microphone, or camera data.
We do not track your location.
We do not sell your data to anyone.
We do not send push notifications. (Yes, none. By design.)
3. How we use your data
Your task and session data — to power the app's core focus features on your device.
Your email address — to send you the welcome email, the launch announcement, and occasional product updates. Nothing else.
Website analytics — to understand which marketing channels work and improve the site.
4. Service providers
We use a small set of trusted service providers to operate the app and website. Each only sees the minimum data needed for their function. Categories:
App platform & infrastructure — for app distribution.
Website hosting — for serving the website and processing form submissions.
Email delivery — for sending the welcome email and future launch announcements.
Waitlist storage — for keeping your email address until launch.
Analytics — for understanding which marketing channels work and improving the site.
Advertising attribution — to measure paid campaign performance.
All providers we use meet GDPR and CCPA standards. If you'd like the specific names of the providers we use, email hello@heynudge.co and we'll share the full list.
5. Cookies and tracking
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies for:
Analytics — to measure traffic and improve content.
Advertising attribution — to track which paid campaign sources convert.
Preferences — to remember small UI choices like dismissing the cookie banner.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings; some features may not work as expected. The Nudge iOS app itself does not use cookies — cookies are a website-only mechanism.
6. Data retention
On-device data (tasks, sessions) — kept on your device until you delete the app or clear data from within the app.
Email address — kept until you unsubscribe or request deletion.
Website analytics — anonymized data retained per provider defaults (typically 14 months for Google Analytics).
7. Your rights
Regardless of where you live, you have the following rights:
Access — request a copy of any personal data we hold.
Correction — ask us to fix inaccurate data.
Deletion — request that we delete your data.
Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
Withdraw consent — unsubscribe from emails at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@heynudge.co. We respond within 30 days.
If you're in the EU/UK (GDPR): Our legal basis for processing your email is consent (signup). For website analytics, our legal basis is legitimate interest. You can withdraw consent at any time.
If you're in California (CCPA): You have the right to know what data we collect, the right to delete it, and the right to opt out of sale. We do not sell your data.
8. Children's privacy
Nudge is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
9. Security
We use industry-standard practices to protect your data:
All web traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).
Email addresses in our waitlist are stored in Airtable with access restricted to authorized personnel.
On-device app data is protected by iOS's standard data protection (encrypted at rest when your device is locked).
API keys and credentials are never embedded in the app or website source code.
No system is perfectly secure. If you become aware of a security issue, please email hello@heynudge.co.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Nudge evolves. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top. If the changes are material, we'll email everyone on the waitlist.
The short version: Your tasks and screen-time data stay on your phone. Your email address is the only thing we store on our servers, and it's used only to send you emails about Nudge. We don't sell your data. We don't have a way to read your tasks even if we wanted to.
